General Mahungkuei ruled competent over Northwestchina. He himself loved eating ice creme and carried pailfull of it along. With it he mauled his guests. The pictures I used were made in the 20's of the famous photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.

These Pictures I used were made at the time of the turn of the century. A girl from China and a boy from Europe, who actually have the same destinys. Having a girl in the family did mean, then even more than today, nothing good because it meant that there is one more person to feed (until her marriage). After the marriage, the girl gets in the family of the bridegroom, where she has to work hardly till her death. Economically the parents of the girl have nothing of her. That's why a lot of girls from poor familys were already sold in tender age, so that they could become concubines and similar things. And the destiny of this boy is visible from his appearence and attitude.
